Beyond installation: what the customer needed from a BESS partner

EHG Invest specialises in energy services and investment in energy infrastructure. For its latest project, the company set out to build a battery storage system. It ran a competitive tender, weighing up several potential suppliers before choosing Wattstor.

What mattered most to EHG Invest wasn’t only who could install the system, but who would stand behind it once it was live. The customer needed a partner with a proven track record, the technical depth to get the design right, and the ongoing presence to keep the system reliable for years to come.

Getting the technical foundations right, from grid connection to planning permission

From the earliest stages, we provided EHG Invest with a full engineering package, including the grid connection design, and supported the business through planning permission and technical documentation. That groundwork was central to securing approval and getting the system design right from the outset.

Energy management software with cybersecurity built in

EHG Invest also needed the battery storage system and energy management software to meet strict cybersecurity requirements before they could be safely controlled and operated. Podium, our energy management system (EMS), controls and monitors the battery storage system around the clock. As part of that, it was configured to meet the strict cybersecurity requirements EHG Invest needed for the system to be operated safely.

Support that continues years after commissioning

Alongside the build, Wattstor and EHG Invest agreed a long-term service arrangement covering local maintenance and technical support after go-live. For EHG Invest, that ongoing local presence was as important a factor as the technology itself: a system of this scale needs a team close by who can respond quickly, not just a contractor who leaves once it’s switched on.

• Design, supply and installation of a 2.1 MW / 5 MWh battery storage system
• Integration of Podium EMS, configured to meet the customer’s cybersecurity requirements
